14yr old dies of cardiac arrest after spraying deodorant in her room

Deodorants may appear to be an innocent part of the daily personal hygiene routine – little do people realise how some ingredients in them could cause significant harm and that too in a short time frame. Sometimes, the chemicals in deodorants can harm the skin, cause rashes and inflammation, but that is not where it ends. In a shocking incident, a 14-year-old girl passed away after spraying a deodorant. Although it may appear like a very normal practice, doctors said that the girl suffered from a cardiac arrest after she accidentally inhaled aerosol. Giorgia Green, who was otherwise perfectly healthy and fit, had sprayed a deodorant in her bedroom. The girl had also never been seriously ill – and after the incident, she was found dead in her room by her mother. Giorgia had autism and her father revealed that she liked to spray deodorants on blankets as she found the fragrance comforting, it helped her feel calm and relaxed. How do deodorants result in deadly incidents? Aerosol in deodorants contains toxic, poisonous chemicals and gases can be deadly and such incidents are not limited to children. Experts say that spreading awareness about the same and propagating safe use can help limit such incidents significantly. Additionally, it is imperative to keep these products away from the reach of children and limit or avoid using them with toddlers – instead, parents can use talcum powder.
